Wasatch Blvd and the New Digital Sign – A Missed Opportunity by Our Leadership
As we move into the final months of 2024, there are critical updates regarding the proposed gondola for Little Cottonwood Canyon and the Utah Department of Transportation's (UDOT) efforts to address traffic issues in Big Cottonwood Canyon. Both projects carry significant impacts for our communities, and we want to ensure you’re informed and prepared to engage in the process.
November Update on Wasatch Boulevard and Gondola Developments
We wanted to bring to your attention a critical development on Wasatch Blvd that is not only reshaping our scenic boulevard into something more akin to a freeway but also contributing to growing traffic and parking issues in our community.
New HAWK Crossing at Bella Vista Elementary
We are thrilled to share some significant progress in our ongoing efforts to make our roads safer for everyone. Last Friday, after two years of dedicated advocacy and collaboration with local and state officials, a brand new HAWK (High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk) light system was installed near Bella Vista Elementary School at the intersection of Fort Union Boulevard and Nye Drive. This is a huge win for our community, especially for the safety of our children and pedestrians.
Summer Speeds and Safety Update: Your Voice Matters
As the summer months approach, we often see an increase in speeding through our canyons and into our neighborhoods. Save Not Pave recently had the opportunity to sit down with Chief Russo and Lieutenant McHugh to discuss these issues and get a better understanding of their daily operations.
Fight the Gondola Fundraiser
Show your support against the gondola and for the Friends of Alta / Canyon Guard Lawsuit!
The Fight the Gondola Fundraiser is an event created to help fund the lawsuit filed by Friends of Alta (FOA), Canyon Guard, and a coalition of individuals and organizations to stop UDOT’s planned Gondola in Little Cottonwood Canyon. The goal of the fundraiser is not only to raise money but to raise awareness of the inaccuracies of the gondola being the right choice for Little Cottonwood Canyon (LCC).
Recurring Themes for Community Life in Cottonwood Heights: Open Space, Health and Well-being, and Safety Initiatives
As we delve into the recurring themes highlighted in the Cottonwood Heights journals, surveys, and newsletters, it becomes increasingly clear that our community consistently voices a strong desire for enhanced road safety, the protection of our cherished open spaces, and a committed focus on overall well-being and security. These priorities emerge time and again, underscoring the collective call to action from our residents. It is essential that we, as a community, continue to advocate for these critical areas to ensure that Cottonwood Heights not only remains a safe and beautiful place to live but also thrives as a supportive and health-conscious community. Let’s come together to champion these causes, which hold the key to our quality of life and the future well-being of our neighborhood.
